The Masters, Mates & Pilots and the Maritime Institute for Research and Industrial Development (MIRAID) continue to achieve success on a number of legislative priorities. Other maritime initiatives supported by MM&P and MIRAID await action.

Among many of the ongoing issues of importance to MM&P and its members are:

  • Funding for the Maritime Security Program
  • Maritime Tax Reform
  • Vessel, Port and Mariner Security
  • Protection of the rights of US Merchant Mariners in obtaining original and renewal Merchant Marine Documents and licenses.

MIRAID President C. James Patti was recently interviewed on Maritime TV on a variety of issues of importance to the U.S. Merchant Marine: funding for the Maritime Security Program; the key role played by U.S.-flag, U.S.-crewed vessels in ensuring our national security; the role of American mariners in short sea shipping initiatives and liquified natural gas (LNG) transport.
